Great book alert!!

In my searching for a path in the gluten free/paleo walk, I found this great book.

The Paleo Kitchen

It is a really great place to get all you need to know about Paleo.

Please try George Bryant's site:

I do have a place in my heart for Marines, as my Rooster is a ten year Marine Vet.  His name is George also.  LOL

Also Juli's site:

It is a place for lots of encouragement and yummy looking food.

Even if you aren't gluten-free like me, this is a great way to eat better and feel better.  Check it out.  It might change your life.

Follow the yellow brick road........

I am well on my way to gluten free living.  Thankfully, there are so many free books on kindle.

I was also introduced to the book "Wheat Belly" and books on Paleo lifestyle.

For the first time in my life, I maxed out my request of books at the library.  LOL  My daughter asked me how many books I requested, and I don't know.

The sheer amount of items with gluten is staggering.  Even lipstick, lotion, chapstick, and soap.

A man at church told me to divide my plate into thirds.  1/3 meat, 1/3 veggies, and 1/3 fruit.  That will keep me out of most trouble.

Paleo avoids corn, dairy, and beans.  So I will be playing with that.  I am breaking it right now by drinking a cherry 7up with all the refined sugar.  But I am being a good girl and avoiding Coke.

Chocolate is still on the menu and can I get an AMEN for that???  This is hard enough without missing chocolate.

All kidding aside, I am feeling better.  My knee pain is almost gone and my stomach isn't killing me all the time.  That alone should prove that this is working.

Please visit these sites for more info:

Happy reading and have a wonderful day.

Going on a new journey

I got the news yesterday that I need to go on a gluten free diet.  I was not expecting this at all.  I knew that I have Hashimoto's Disease which is a thyroid dysfunction.  But it appears to have a link to gluten.  So I will be learning a new way to eat the next several months.

If you follow this diet, would you leave your email or blog link on my comments?  I need all the help I can get.

My email is

Thank you so much for your support.

Let the old pass away.

I had been thinking for sometime about re-affirming my faith and being baptized again.  Yesterday I did just that.  It was a beautiful day.  You can watch it here.

I am the next to the last to get baptized.

God Bless and have a wonderful day.

After Anniversary and Birthday

Well, we had our 17th anniversary.  The lovely ladies at our church gave us a 50 dollar gift card to go and enjoy at one of the best BBQ places here in Houston.  I was so grateful as things have been very tight since I left my job.  Rooster, Bri, and I enjoyed brisket, potato salad, cucumber salad, mac & cheese, bread, and iced tea.  We had a wonderful time.  I even had food to bring home.  They give you tons to eat.  Papas BBQ is fantastic.  I love the easy Western style atmosphere.

I celebrated my 44th (ok, my second 22nd) birthday on Aug 7th.  Got tons of hugs and well wishes from my bible study ladies.  Then went home to enjoy my cute little family.  Bri made me a handmade card and a book.  Very cute.  We just spent the rest of the day hanging out.

Now I am cleaning and clearing.  I got rid of tons of stuff.  I am taking all the homeschool related stuff to the park tomorrow as we are meeting up with other homeschool families to trade our stuff.  I thought this was a great idea.  Get rid of stuff to someone who could use it.

I am ready for the new school year.  We are really liking the four day, six week on, seventh week off schedule.  We are also doing a unit study/project type approach to science and history.  Bri picked insects for earth science.  We are going to finish up the Middle Ages and start a project for history using the American Girl Felicity as the center piece.

Bri has found that she loves audio books.  She has listed to about 10 books in the last few weeks.  Lots of trips to the library.

I am very happy with the new church that we have found and Rooster has even gone a few times.  We have joined as a family.  It is a very simple place and we like it that way.  Bri loves it and begs to go.

My business is going fairly well.  I am finding that I enjoy it very much.

I hope that everyone has a very blessed day.

Opening a new chapter in life

I have left my job at The Home Depot in order to make my own schedule and be my own boss.  I was getting tired of getting taken advantage of and the long hours standing on concrete.  I would have to sometimes beg someone to take my place so I could go to the restroom or take a break.  No one wanted to do the greeting job that I was doing sometimes eight hours.  Between the aching muscles and the run for the restroom, I had had enough.

I had been praying for some time about getting back home to be a stay at home Mom, wife, and homeschool educator.  I have tossed around the idea of cleaning homes to help keep the household running.

Well, some jobs have come up and I decided to take the leap and leave the corporate world behind.  I can set my own schedule and take Bri with me.

Bri is really at a time in her life that she needs her Mom.  I have the feeling that she is coming into puberty.  She will be 10 in Oct and she is acting like a teen.  That is what really made me make the decision.

What I need most is prayers.  Will you pray for us?  I have gotten back to the practice of praying every morning along with reading a devotional.  I am now able to go to church regularly and a bible study with other ladies.  I had to leave all that behind when I took full time work.

I am really relying on God right now to lead me in the right direction.  All we need comes from him.

Thank you so much for your prayers.

Going to Wife School

Yes, I am going to Wife School.  You can too.

I bought a wonderful book yesterday at Amazon.  You can check it out here:

You can also see the authors site to sign up for Wife School online.

I read this entire book cover to cover (well, kind of as I got it on Kindle.  LOL)

Whether you are having marriage problems or you just want to fine tune some things, this book is for you.  From ready to get married to whatever number anniversary, there is something that you can take away from this book.

It is funny and engaging.  It was so worth the price for it.  I bought it after getting a sample of it from Amazon when I was looking at the if you like this you will like these at the bottom of other books that I had been looking at.

God Bless and have a wonderful day.

Wonderful smelling hair

I made myself a hair rinse that leaves my hair smelling wonderful.

I used a empty apple cider vinegar bottle.  (1 qt)

Into the bottle I put:

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
5 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops rosemary essential oil
Fill the bottle the rest of the way with water

Shake well.

I used enough to soak my scalp.  So I think I can use it about four or five times.

You can rinse or just dry.  I rinsed my a little bit.  It left my hair soft and smelled really good.

I hope you love it.

Leaving on a jet plane...........

I am getting ready to fly out early morning Thursday to surprise my Mom and Dad on their 60th wedding anniversary.  It will also be my Mom's 81st birthday.

My sister the Doctor helped by sending me plane tickets!  I am very blessed by this.

Bri is very excited about going as she hasn't seen Grammy and Pop since 2010.  Boy are they in for a surprise.  She isn't the cute little five year old they remember.  LOL  She is a BIG kid now.

We spent a wonderful Easter together as I have taken April 20th thru April 29th off.

Rooster went to church with us.  (yes, that is a HUGE blessing)  We had a nice lunch and spent the day walking around in stores that were open.  We both got a nice cuppa at Barnes & Nobles.  Their English Breakfast tea is wonderful.

I also re-read "one thousand gifts" by Ann Voskamp.  If you haven't read it, it is very good.  I am planning to make a journal to write my gifts in when I get back.

I am really into essential oils right now.  I got some to scent my homemade cleaning supplies and homemade laundry soap.  But I am using them to scent the air and make wonderful bath salt for the tub.

Here is a recipe:

4 lbs bag of Epsom Salt

Pour bag of Salt into a clean bucket with a lid.  Sprinkle EO of choice over the Salt.

I use 15 drops of Rosemary and 15 drops of Spearmint.  It is really nice to soak in after a long day of standing on my feet.

Put the lid on tight and shake well.  Leave for two or three days and shake again.  I use 1/4 cup in a tub.

Rosemary and Lavender is a really good mix.  So is Rose Geranium and Lavender.  This helps me sleep.  I put this combo on a cotton ball in a cup next to my bed.

Found a really great Health Food store near where I live.  I got a wine bottle full of sunflower oil for about 10.00.  I use it for under my eyes and also for oil pulling.  I also bought Mrs. Meyer's cleaning product in Bluebell.  It smells wonderful.  I also bought a nice soapless gel to wash my face.  It is NutriBiotic's Skin Cleanser.  It has grapefruit seed extract in it.  Has a nice fruity smell without being overpowering.  There is a farm market in the plaza that the store is in every Saturday.  I can't go as often as I would like as I am working.  But I plan to take one Saturday off a month to go.

God Bless and have a wonderful day.

Love, MrsRooster

Hello. I am still here.

No, I haven't fallen off the earth.

Life has been very crazy.  I have moved and I have been working at a job to help out since Rooster got hurt and lost his job.

I have had many ups and downs.  Things are not great right now.  But, I am learning to trust God.

It is really funny in the middle of the worst time of our lives, I am growing in faith.

God is so very good.

I have intermittent internet back.  So I hope to share more.

Remember that God loves you very much.  No matter what is going on in your life right now.  He is holding your hand.

Take care and God bless.
