Tuesday Tales

What a beautiful morning.  It got down to 57 last night.  That may not sound very cool to you, but it really is to us.  We stayed in the low 80's yesterday.  I think fall is here.

I found a great recipe to use fresh corn on the cob and fresh tomatoes.

Sopa de Elote (Corn Soup)

6 ears of fresh corn
3 med tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and cut up
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
2 T butter
4 cups beef broth
1/2 cup whipping cream

Cut corn off the cob and scrap the cobs. ( about 4 cups of fresh corn)  In blender, combine half the corn and half the tomatoes.  Cover and blend until smooth, scraping the sides often.  Repeat with remaining corn and tomatoes.

In a large saucepan, cook the onion in the butter until tender; add corn mixture and broth.  Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.  Gradually add the cream.  Heat through but do not boil.  Season to taste with salt and pepper.  Add hot sauce if desired.

Makes 8 servings.

You can also top with:

2 medium avocadoes, peeled, seeded, and cut up
1/2 small onion, cut up
2 T lemon juice
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 t salt
1/2 t pepper

Run all ingredients in a blender until well combined.

Have a wonderful afternoon!

Sorry, this is for all who are looking for the bread pudding recipe.  I got it at

10 slices of bread, cut into cubes  (use stale bread)
1/4 cup melted butter
1 t ground cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins
6 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup white sugar
2 t vanilla extract
2 t salt
3 cups hot milk
1 pinch nutmeg

Preheat oven to 375.  Butter a 2 quart baking dish.
Combine bread cubes, butter, cinnimon, and raisins.  Mix well and place in the baking dish.
Beat together eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt.  Add milk, mix well and pour over the bread mix.
Sprinkle with nutmeg and bake for 25 minutes.  (I needed 10 more minutes because my bread wasn't very stale)

Monday Afternoon

Happy Fall.  We have finally got some cooler weather.  Though most of you won't really consider it cool.

I made my bread pudding.  Isn't it beautiful.  Tasty too!

Put around some decorations.

Picked up some seeds and two plants.  Hopefully, fall will be a better time to plant.

I have joined a new church.  It is a big change from what I am use too.  But it has lots of programs for Bri.  I am in MOPS and a Ladies study.  Lots of community missions.  It is full of families.

That is all for today.  More pictures tomorrow.  Have a wonderful evening.  God Bless.

Wednesday Morning

I have been sick since Sunday.  Yuck.  When something comes into the house, everyone shares.  LOL     I am doing ok.  My stomach muscles and my ribs hurt.  Not surprizing after getting sick as much as I did.

Bri is taking one of her friends to AWANA tonight.  It is cookies and friends night.  She is so excited.  I am glad she has found a pal.  One of her classmates from last year came back and is in her class again.  So, I am glad.

I am still working on Christmas gifts.  Also a shawl for someone.

Here is my weekly Journal post:

This week’s Homekeeper’s Journal is all about Long-suffering ….

God has worked in my life regarding patience and long-suffering in these ways ………… Seeing people that are way worse off than we are.  I have a roof over our heads and a loving hubby and beautiful daughter.

The hardest part of showing long-suffering is ………….  when some one is a jerk just because they can or they just like to be and you know that they are laughing at you.

The most rewarding part of showing long-suffering is ……….. The reward is very sweet.  Much better than you can ever guess.

The one kind situation that I have the most trouble showing long-suffering in is ……… when someone is hurting me on purpose.  Just being hateful.

I see how kindness goes hand in hand with long-suffering because ………. that is the way that you should be.

I want others to show long-suffering to me when ……… I have hurt feelings and shut people out.

God shows long-suffering to me in these ways ………..Good things come to those who wait and are patient.

Ephesians 4:1-4 says ….. Be patient and bear one another with love.  Keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

This week I will begin to ask God to ………..  Help me be more patient.  Even when things are hard, help me to do things with love.

Have a wonderful day.

Round Two

Sometimes I feel a bit of resentment when I ……….. Go out of my way to make something or do something for someone and they blow it off or seem not to notice that I took the time to do something special.

Why is it so difficult for me to ………..  Talk without crying when I am mad or upset.

1 Chronicles 16:11 tells me to …… Remember the wonders

1 Peter 5:8 warns me …….. To have self-control and be alert.

I am going to pray and ask for strength to …………. Not to let my feeling get hurt so easily.  Life is too short to be angry or upset.

The difficult thing that seems to constantly catch me off guard is ……… other people's moods.  I have a tendence to be kind of sunny.

James 1:12 says ….. Persevere under trial and you will receive the crown of life that God has promised.

I am determined to ……. Keep my faith and draw closer to God

Trying something new

Nest - a snug retreat or refuge; resting place; home.

Nesting - to build or have a nest

My kitchen would be more inviting if …………. It was in my own home.  We are living with family and it isn't my kitchen.
My best tip for making a home seem more welcoming ….. Picked up and clean looking.  A nice candle burning with a seasonal scent.  Some decorations for the season.
To give the feeling of warmth in my home I often ….. Have candles lit and a warm afghan on the couch ready to be snuggled under.  (Though it is still very hot this time of year in Texas  LOL)
In the cooler months, it is essential for me to ….. Put seasonal colors in the house.  Since we hardly get snow, I like to put crochet snowflakes around for dollies and coasters.

Some favorite Autumn/Winter recipes are ….. Anything apple, pumkin, or spiced smelling.  I love soups and casseroles.
A Quick Tip for making your house more inviting …… Put spices on the stove to boil.  It fills the house with the smell.

Monday part two

What is your favorite movie?   (you can put two or three)

My first favorite movie is Last of the Mohicains. (sorry about the spelling)
My second favorite movie is The Village.

I have a love for "pioneer spirit".  Cora is far from home in a wild land.  She is strong thru the loss of her father and the loss of her way of life.  Then the loss of her sister.  This has to be one of the most beautiful movies too.

When Lucius runs in and grabs Ivy's hand and they run to the safety of the cellar and sit quietly holding hands, the love is so unspoken.  Sometimes I feel like I would like to live like that.  But the evil comes even in this "perfect" place.

I do have to admit, the first time that I saw the Village, I was so darn mad.  I won't ruin it if you haven't seen it.

Please leave me a comment and share your story.

PS  Some of the music on my blog is from the Village.  It is done by James Newton Howard.  It is gorgeous.

Monday Meanderings

Doesn't this look like a smile??

Good Morning.  Long time with no post.  I am sorry.

I don't even know where to begin.

I have been sending Bri to Awana.  She loves it.  We have been going to the church where her Awana is held.  They have lots of programs for kids.  I joined a ladies group.  We will be reading "Captivating".  It looks to be very helpful.

The change in church has been a really good change also.  Not that where I was going was not.  But where I am going now is full of young families.  It is a Bapist church and has modern music.  I had been going to a Presbyterian church.  So most of you know what a change that is.  It feels more real and not so much just a ritual.  I really can't explain it.  It is funny, the pastor of the church lives right across the street from me.  In the year I have lived here, we never met.  I think I have been in the house too much.  LOL

George is sick today.  Poor guy was up most of the night sick to his stomach and the runs.  George never gets sick, so it is pretty bad.  It is like a caged bear in the house.  Yikes!!

For those who follow my blog, Tucker (He is the small dog in the photo) is very happy in his new home.  The lady that took him just loves him.  Thank God for that.  He is such a sweet boy.

God Bless and have a wonderful day.
