Fantastic Friday

Thanks for all the comments and emails.  Words can't say how grateful I am.

I got an extra surprize.  We were going to Galveston for May 4,5,6.  Well, we got an extra night.  So we will be staying three nights.  So we will go on Tuesday and come back on Friday.  Just George, Bri, and I.  So hopefully we will do some family bonding.  The weather is suppose to be gorgeous.  I am so grateful for this gift also.  It is for George's birthday, but I think I will benfit most from it.  It is at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort right down on the Gulf.  We haven't told Bri.  We want to surprize her.  We got a Kid's Suite room.  It has an extra room off the main room.  So she'll have her "own" room.  But it is just a room attached to ours with no outside door.  But there is a door she can close to our room.  It will be themed with a DVD player and bunk beds.  She will go crazy over the pool.

I got new pictures of the roses that George got me.  The gardenia is blooming today.  I will have to get a picture of that.

Well, I think that wraps it up today.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Thursday extra

Here is our newest friend.

Her name is Katy.  It is thought that she is 4 months old.  George found her skinny, dirty, and hungry.

She is a sweetie.  She fetches and sits.  Does all her business outside.  (Except for a little pee when she sees you, she gets excited)

Isn't she pretty??  Hazel eyes

Windy Thursday

Good Morning.  It is a breezy morning here.  Wish I could hang out my laundry.  It would be perfect.  But I live in a HOA.  For those of you who don't know, they control what you can do in your own property.  I would never chose to live here.  We are staying with my sister in law, so I have little choice at this time.

Bri and I are in a stand off.  I told her to pick up her room and she decided to argue with me and talk over me.  That is a down side to letting her go to school and pick up other kids bad behaviors.  So she is grounded from Tv, DVDs, 'tendo, and everything else until it is picked up.  She spent the afternoon and evening in her room last night.  I went in this morning and it was worse, so she will come home from school and go to her room again.  It is a pure power play.  It won't work.  She is also trying to get Daddy to tell her it is ok to watch a movie.  So she is trying him too.  It won't work.  We are standing together.  Oh the joys of a five year old.  Pray for me.

It is very hard to be living under someone else's roof.  So I am struggling at this time and would be grateful for prayers from everyone.  I feel that I am in a losing battle.  Plus the strain is causing strife with my hubby.  We rarely argue.  But have been as of late.  Bri has been acting up.  So I am very stressed.  My family and friends are 1300 miles away.  I have a wonderful church, but have not been getting there due to other influences.

I have to stop here as I am tearing up.  Have a wonderful day.

Tuesday Tales

Hello.  Been running around doing errands today.  I will be glad to have a day that I don't have errands!!

I am still working on my Mermaid for my hubby and Bri's teacher's baby blanket.  I haven't been working much on it.  I got off my vitamins and I have been tired.  With my thyroid dysfunction, I have to be careful to take my pill at the same time every day and take my vitamins.   Or else I am just wiped out.

Garden is going well.  I have little tomatoes on the grape tomato plant.  Still having trouble with the cucumber.  I think that we have a chipmunk or something.  There are holes in the leaves and it isn't rot or anything.  Lettuce, spinach, and chard are a wash.  I don't think that I planted them early enough.  Learning to grow in Zone 9, instead of Zone 5.  Big change.

Here is a recipe:

Hot Fudge Cake
1 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 TAB cocoa
2 TEA baking powder
1/4 TEA salt
1/2 cup milk
2 TAB vegetable oil
1 TEA vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1 1/4 cups hot water

Heat oven to 350

Mix flour, sugar, 2 TAB cocoa, baking powder, and salt in ungreased 9 X 9 baking dish

Mix in milk, oil, and vanilla with a fork until smooth

Stir in nuts and spread in the dish.

Mix together brown sugar and cocoa.  Sprinkle over cake mixture.

Pour hot water over the batter

Bake 40 minutes

Let stand for 15 minutes

Serve with vanilla ice cream

Sure it is Lo-Cal.   LOL!!!

Have a wonderful day.

Monday Afternoon

Hello.  I hope that everyone's weekend was nice.  Prayers to all of you that got nasty weather.  I hope everyone is ok and are on the way to getting things back in order.  When I was 15, we had an F5 tornado.  It wasn't a mile from my house.  We got huge hail.    My hubby was checking gas and oil wells in PA and got it head on.  It was so big that he didn't see a funnel.  He crawled down a storm drain to escape the wind and hail.  He crawled out into a mess.  That is the closest I ever was to a tornado.  I don't care to be in another.

Boy, I thought that I have heard it all.  But I think this takes the cake.  I was at Hobby Lobby over the weekend.  I walked through the party supple isle just to see what they had.  Bri's birthday will be at the Downtown Aquarium.  So I thought about mermaids for the girls and Nemo or fish for the boys.  Well, the lady that was looking at birthday stuff said to me, what are you using?  I told her.  She told me that at the school that her child went to, all gifts, supplies, etc had to be gender-neutral.  No pink for girls, blue for boys.  Everything must be for either.  Am I the only one to think that this is crazy??  You can't be a girl or boy now or someone will get offended???  Even if you know the child that the birthday is for, it has to be a neutral gift.  I just don't understand this.  What are we turning into??  Does this scare you???

We had to take one of the dogs to the vet this morning.  She is having TI's.  Little strokes.  She is 14, so it isn't that much of a surprize.  But it didn't do much damage.  She isn't having problems.  She just got confused and got under the kitchen table and couldn't figure out how to get back out.  She also was standing outside wimpering.  The vet said that it is like dementia.  So we are watching her.  She seems ok now.  Her eyes are pretty cloudy now.  So I think that in really sunny days, she can't see hardly at all.

Well, it is almost time to get Bri from school.  Have a wonderful day.

Bri is such a goose!!

Feeling better today.

I guess that I got a 24 hour thing.  I feel much better today.  Just kind of tired.

Did three loads of laundry yesterday.  So now I have to put all the laundry away.

Still trying to get my room organized.  I have been thinking of a way to store blankets and sheets under my bed.  Has anyone used those bags that you vacuum the air out?  Do they work?

My tomatoes are going crazy from the rain and the muggy days.  We have been in the low 80's.  I am not ready for the muggy summers here in Houston.  That is the only thing that I really don't like here.  Not that it didn't get hot in Ohio.  Just not as long or as hot and muggy.

Here is another beautiful poem I found:

Never Be Discouraged

There is really nothing we need know
or even try to understand
If we refuse to be discouraged
and trust God's Guiding Hand...
So take heart and meet each minute
with Faith in God's Great Love,
Aware that every day of life
is controlled by God Above...
And never dread tomorrow
or what the Future brings,
Just pray for strength and courage
and trust God in all things...
And never grow discouraged
be patient and just wait
For "God never comes too early
and He never Comes too late!"

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee...   Psalms 55:22

By the way, Andrew went thru his surgery well yesterday.
Thanks to everyone who prayed for him.  Stacy is very grateful.

Over the hump day

Good Morning.  I am not feeling so well this morning.  I have some stomach problems.  So that killed me going to Ladies Circle and Lunch Bunch.  That makes me sad.  I really look forward to it.

But I am glad that Bri isn't sick.  I would rather be sick than her.

So I didn't get any stitching done last night.  I watched TV.  You know I was sick.  I am not a TV person.  What a bunch of junk on TV.

So that is about all today.

Please keep Stacy's son Andrew in your prayers, he is having surgery today.

Have a blessed day.

Tuesday Tales

Good Morning to all.  We had a good soaker and the garden has gone crazy.

I have lots of housework to do today.  I went to breakfast and window shopping with my hubby yesterday.  I don't like to wash lots of towels when it is raining.  It seems to take a long time to dry.  So I will have to wait another day on towels.

I am still going thru stuff and re-organizing.  I have put all my winter type clothes away.  I have to find a place for all the blankets and flannel sheets.  My storage space is extremely limited.

Been working on my mermaid.  Got the most beautiful gift from my friend Sandy Jo.  It is a gorgeous pattern from Ink Circles and Weeks Dye Works thread and hand dyed linen fabric.  I am in heaven!!!  I will have to post pics.  But I don't think a photo will do it justice.  It made my day, week, and month!!  Thank you Sandy Jo for thinking of me.  It means the world to me.  It also kicked me into gear to get the stuff I am working on done so I can get to it!!!!

Bri is working hard on the end of school show for the parents.  They are singing a number with sunglasses and instruments.  She can't wait for us to see it.

Well, I guess it is back to my housework.  Have a blessed day.

Super Saturday

Bri is off on an adventure with her Aunt Linda.  They are going to lunch and to Disney on Ice.  They have front ice seats.  So I am sure that all will have a good time.  They are going with a friend of Aunt Linda's and her grand daughter who is Bri's age.  So I am sure that it will be the event of the year!!!!

George and I get to spend a nice afternoon just the two of us.  I don't know what we are doing yet.

So here is a poem I found and a nice picture.  Have a wonderful weekend.

IN GOD WE TRUST

O God, our Help in ages past,
our hope in years to be,
Look down upon this PRESENT
and see our need of THEE--
For in this age of unrest,
with danger all around,
We need Thy hand to lead us,
to higher, safer ground,
We need Thy help and counsel
to make us more aware
That our safety and security
lie solely in THY CARE
And as we FIGHT FOR FREEDOM
make our way and purpose clear
and in our hours of danger
may we feel Thy Presence near.

GOD BLESS

Busy Thursday

Good morning!  It is cool and sprinkling here today.

Bri is having her China party at her school today.  They are having Lo Mein, Fried Rice, and Eggrolls.  Plus they are learning Chinese characters, making masks, and listening to music.

She came home a fire-lady yesterday.  The local fire house sent firemen and a truck to the Pre-school.  She wore her helmet until bath time.  They got bags with fire safety color pages and they got to ride around the parking lot in the truck, use the siren, and the firemen lit and put out a small fire.  They also put on their gear so the kids could see them with the Scott bottle and such.  What a great group of guys.  This prompted Bri to want to be a Fire-Lady because there were no girls.  LOL

We have to take Honey to the vet today.  She needs a shot and a check up.

Got my teddy bear bib done.  I got it from the DMC site.  It was a freebie.  Also here is the progress on my Mermaid I am doing for George's birthday.  I am using DMC 3810 for the Mermaid, and DMC varigated 67 for the bubbles with the angel fish in them.  His birthday is May 6.  So I hope to have it done.  I am going to let him pick out the frame for it.

Have a wonderful day!!

Over the hump day.

I finally got my camera in order.   Thanks for all the advise.  Works great now.

I have started doing my cross stitch using the strand a day method.  You committ to using at least one strand a day working on a piece.  It is amazing how much you can do this way.  You can visit HDF's site and join the forum and learn more about this and join in the fun.  The link is on my sidebar.  It is Vikki Clayton's site.  You will find forum on the left side when you enter her site.

My garden is slowly coming along.  I am not happy with my lettuce, spinach, or chard.  Cucumbers aren't setting the world on fire either.  I don't know what is wrong.  The weather here is chilly in the mornings, then 80 in the afternoon.  These are all cool weather crops.  This is the second time that I have planted the cucumbers.  We will have to see how it goes.  The cucumber plants at Lowe's didn't look good the other day when I was there.

If you are making your own soap, please know that Fels Naptha soap is made with petro-chemicals.  Zote is a much safer soap to use.  You can visit Homestead Wannabes blog to look up her recipes for homemade cleaners and soap.  Her blog is in my blog list.  Please visit Jackie's great site.  If you are having a hard time finding Zote, I get mine at Big Lots.  It is 80 - 88 cents per bar.  Let me know if you can't find it.  It has a nice lemony smell.

Well, I think that is all.  I will be getting pics of my cross stitch projects and my newly organized closet in the next couple of days.  Have a great day.

The rose my Hubby got me.

Don't know what this is, but it is pretty.

Bri loves this because it is called Bunny Ears.

Tuesday Tales

Good morning!  I have been Spring cleaning up a storm.  I did the bathroom and pulled everything out of my closet.  Phew.  I am slowly putting things away.  I like my new wallpaper looking boxes.  Much better than all the plastic.

I have been working on a mermaid for my hubby's birthday.  She is tossing bubbles with angel fish in them.  I am using a nice blue green for the mermaid and DMC's varigated blue for the bubbles.

It has been cooler here.  I will take 50's for lows and 70's for highs.  My garden seems to like it also.

Booked my trip to Galveston.  So I am excited to go.  We aren't telling Bri.  We want to surprize her.  We will pick her up from school on the 4th and drive to Galveston.  We got a Kids Suite.  That should be great.  They have a nice pool too.  It is really for George's birthday.  I am praying for nice weather!!

Well, I need to get back to cleaning.  I want to get the closet done and the loft picked up and start on Bri's room.

Have a wonderful day.

Bri makes friends everywhere!

A sunny and cool Thursday.

A cold front came thru last night and it is cool and sunny here today.  More like Spring.  Now if the pollen count would drop!!!!

Not much going on around here.  Just getting housework done.  Did my taxes and E-filed them yesterday.  Turbo Tax is a lifesaver.  Very easy and quick.

We are going to an open house at the school we think we will be sending Bri to.  She can't wait to go and visit.  More about that tomorrow.

I still haven't got batteries for my camera.  A nice blogger pal of mine gave me some hints to save battery.  Thanks!!!  So you will have to settle for older photos.

Have a wonderful day.

Tuesday Tales

I got lazy yesterday.  I went running around instead of getting work done.  I felt like I was playing hooky.  So I have to buckle down today and get some work done.

We are looking into getting a hotel in Galveston for a few days.  It is a combo gift from my sil for my hubby's birthday and because my daughter wants to stay in a hotel.  So now I am in the process of looking.  My mind is set on one of the hotels right on the seawall.  We'll see what it costs.

George is dreaming about what to do with his empty 55 gallon tank.  He decided it will be saltwater.  From there, he hasn't decided anymore about it.  I like dwarf angels.  But, it will be a new setup so I don't know if you can put them in a new tank.  It gives him something to play with.

Two more months of school.  Can you believe it???  Wasn't it just Christmas??   Time flys.  We are going to an open house at a school that we are interested in sending Bri too.  She'll be in Kindergarden this fall.  She is an October baby.  So she had to wait a year.  Its not like she won't get enough school.  She is so excited about going.  This place has small classes, worship, and is really close.  It is a Christian school.  It is a few hundred dollars more than where she goes now.  They have good standing and accreditation.  Their high school part is in the top five.  So we will make the decision after we go to the open house.  Keep us in your prayers as we decide on this.

Well, my camera is out of batteries.  So I will leave you with some older pics.  My camera is a battery hog!!!!

Have a wonderful day.

Happy Easter

A very blessed Easter from my family to yours.

Thursday, April 1, 2010

Oh what a beautiful morning

It has turned out sunny and beautiful here this morning.  When I got up and took Bri to school this morning around 7:00, it was cloudy and cool.  But the sun came thru and it is clear and beautiful.

I am planning a picnic at the park tomorrow.  I want to make chicken salad, iced tea, and something sweet.  The one thing I love very much about Texas is all the parks around here.  Some even have fountains that go all day so the kids can run thru them and cool off.  For those of you who have never been in south Texas in the summer, it is very hot, humid, and sticky.  My first summer here was last year.  One of the hotest in years.  I think 100+ is hot.  I don't think you get use to it.  But you learn to live with it.  Air conditioning is a must.  The only place I was at that was hotter was Mesa, AZ.  It was 121 degrees.  Yes, I heard that it is a dry heat.  Well, baked or fried, it is still hot.

We are able to go out on the patio now.  Linda lost her awning in the hurricane.  So she replaced it and it is really nice to sit out now.  The ceiling fan does wonders.  I am thinking of long evenings with lots of iced tea!!

Bri's class was having their Easter party today.  So she was ready to go this morning.  They are having chili dogs, chips, and cupcakes.  They will have an Easter Egg hunt and Easter themed movies.  Next week is international week.  Her class theme is China.  They will be having fried rice and egg rolls.  I am looking for lanterns and pictures of dragons and Chinese letters.

Well, I am off to tour China.  Have a wonderful afternoon.
