And the winner is ......

Amy from      Congrats Amy!!!!!

Been stitching up a storm.  I hope to get some more pics to put on my blog tomorrow.

Is everyone ready for Easter?  I have my eggs bought and filled.  We are coloring eggs on Friday.

Supper and Service at church on Maundy Thursday.
I have to read a the Good Friday Services.
I have a baby shower to go to on Saturday.
Ham for dinner on Sunday and the egg hunt, etc.

What are your plans?

Garden is coming along.  The spinach and chard are up good now.  I am planning on getting a "garden salsa" pepper plant.  Saw them at Lowes.  But the plants looked a bit weak.  So I am waiting for a new shipment.  They had some new herbs.  Cinnimon Basil and Pineapple Sage.  Didn't get any.  I am waiting to see how things go with what I have.  I re-planted the cucumber seeds now that we are in the 50's at night and 70's during the day.  If they didn't go this time, I am going to do summer squash or baby carrots.

I have to go get stuff for Bri's Easter party at school.  Plus I am getting the teacher a gift for her shower.  I haven't finished the baby blanket and I don't want to rush.  We are still planning a picnic on Friday.  But rain is in the forecast.

Have a wonderful day.

Here is the picture of the project I did for the Yahoo group I belong to.  It was the frontpage of the groups site for the month of March.

You can find this and other great freebies at Stofnest blog site.  Her link is on my sidebar.

Monday Morning

Good Morning.  Happy Easter week to all.

Our fish fry at the church went well.  We had a good turn out.  The silent auction did well.  A great start to a busy week.  Palm Sunday was beautiful.  I had the good fortune of reading the service yesterday.  It is funny how I went from very scared to being ok.  I am not a confident person.  But since being asked, I knew it was for a reason.

We ended up going to Galveston for dinner on Saturday.  We went to the Strand.  It is the older part of the island.  Very cool, but I didn't have my camera.  Then yesterday we ended up going to Downtown Aquarium for lunch and a nice afternoon.  It is one of our favorite places.

I got a great tip for those of you who are growing from seeds.  Use warm water to water them.  It helps keep the soil warm.  It works.  I hope this helps you.

If you haven't left a comment for the Daily Bible giveaway, please do.

Have a wonderful day!!!

Chores, stitching, and sun

Good morning.  It is nice and sunny now.  We were awoke by a nasty, windy, thunderstorm and heavy rain this morning.  Texas is something else when it comes to rain storms.  I think it is because we are so close to the Bay and the Gulf.

I worked on the baby blanket last night while I watched Ghost Hunters.  It wasn't a very good one.  Next week looks better.

I am getting back to normal around here after Bri being home all last week.  She will be off for Good Friday.  So we are packing a lunch and headed to that great park that we found down by the water.  She can run her little tail off.  I can get an "arm workout" using the hand ferry thing that she likes.  And we have a beautiful forecast for Friday for a family outting.  I am blessed.

My job work is done for the week.  So I am free to putter around the house.  I need to bake two cakes and two pies for the fish fry at the church on Saturday.  I have to put together a kitchen basket for the silent auction.  I want to put two homemade dishclothes in it.  I will be taking tickets and dishing up desserts on Saturday.  Again a beautiful forecast.

Well, have a wonderful day.  And please mention my giveaway if you want to be in for the Daily Bible.

Over the hump day.

Busy Busy here today.  I had to go to Spring to get my oil changed.  It is 38 miles from me.  Dodge dealers are very hard to find.  I have never been to one that is so big.  We got our oil changed and our tires rotated.  It cost me 25.00.  I was almost dancing.  They are very upfront with pricing.  Everyone was really nice.

I am giving away this copy of Guidepost's Daily Bible.  I read it and now I want to send it on to someone who wants it.  Please leave me a comment and I will let my daughter draw a name next Wed.

My plants are sprouting like crazy.  I can't wait for fresh salads, tomatoes, and mint for my tea.

A friend of mine shared the idea of using Pineapple Sage in her iced tea.  It reminds me of Juicy Fruit gum.  I love spearment.  I read somewhere to use applemint.  I haven't found seeds or plants of applemint.  Does anyone have applemint seeds to share???

I have to make myself take some pics of my cross stitch tonight and post them.  I keep forgetting.

Have a wonderful day.

Here is the book I am giving away.

Tuesday Tales

Good morning.  It is a nice sunny day here today.  I wish I could hang out my laundry.  But HOA rules apply.  I would never buy into a development.  One day we will be on our own again.

I ran out early and did my errands.  We had to have breakfast at Cracker Barrel.  I love looking at all the cute stuff in the store area.  But I usually don't buy unless it is in the 40 - 75% off bin.

So I am spending the rest of the day on job work, laundry, and housework.  The housework is piled up due to Bri being home a week for Spring break.  Plus I usually do my laundry during the week.  I try not to do loads on the weekend.  My sister in law usually does hers then.  I shouldn't be that behind in housework.  I only have our room, the bathroom, the loft, Bri's room, and the kitchen to do.  But our room is still the catch all.  We aren't all the way unpacked.  I am not bothering to unpack any of my kitchen stuff.  All my depression glass and stuff is still packed.  I am not bothering to unpack that either.  I am going to go thru my clothes again.  I have been thru a Texas winter and a Texas summer now and I can make up my mind about my clothes now.  Most of my stuff is craft stuff.  I just need to get more organized.

Well, that is all for today.  Thanks for all the comments and prayers.  I am very grateful.

Easy candy

1 14oz can sweetened condensed mild
2 16 oz packs of powdered sugar
1 stick butter, softened
1 cup fine coco nut flakes
2 cups chopped pecans
2 16oz packs chocolate ships
2 tablespoons butter

Mix all ingredients except chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons butter.  Roll into 1 inch balls.

Set on waxed paper and chill for 2 hours

Melt chips and butter in a small bowl in the microwave.  Be careful not to burn the chocolate.

Put a toothpick in the balls and dip in the melted chocolate.  Place on waxed paper to set.

Store airtight when dry.

You can use melting chocolate disks from the craft store in place of the chips and butter.  It sets up faster.

Monday Morning

Welcome to a very changed America this morning.  It is a shame.  I won't go into it here and I will cut any comments on this.  I will leave it at I am mourning the lost of more of our freedom.  Watch out, more will come.  We have opened Pandora's box.

I have taken pictures of two of George's buddies.  One is Mitzi and one is Chico the lizard.  We have tons of them here.  They look like little allegators to me.  Mitzi is a attention hog!!!!

I am not in much of a blogging mood today.  You must forgive me.

Have a wonderful day.

Cloudy and windy Saturday

It is cool and windy here today.  So I will be in rainy day mode again today.

We discovered a new park close to the San Jacinto Monument.  I will have to get pics next time.  There is the most beautiful house next to the water.  But I don't think I would want to live so close to the water.  We had planned on going to the Monument.  But when we got to the ferry, it was on the way out.  So we didn't want to wait for the next one.  Bri isn't that patient!!!  So I will go across the Ship Channel Bridge and around the other side next time.  So we just went to lunch and wandered in stores.

For those of you who aren't familar, the battle of San Jacinto is when Santa Anna was defeated and Texas became a Republic.  I am just learning about it myself.  It is a wonderment when you think how far you are standing from the Alamo.  This battle here lasted 18 minutes.  We are planning to go to the re-enactment next month.  I am a history buff and so is my hubby.

If you didn't know, I met my hubby at a Civil War Re-enactment.  I will have to scan some photos.

Have a wonderful day.

Fantastic Friday

Good afternoon.  Haven't been on much or posted much since Bri is on Spring break.

So I have a very short post today.

I just want to leave a nice picture and tell everyone thank you for commenting and following my blog.  It means alot to me.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Mommy has more grays today.

Yes, I have more gray today.

I guess I have to put a disclaimer as I took my daughter to get her immunizations.  So before I get a ton of hate mail, I believe in getting my child her shots.  I have talked to many people who suffered Polio as a child and the terrible effects all thru their lives.  I don't want my daughter to step on a nail and die because I had fears.  Being so close to the border, Hep A is required here in Texas.  I don't care to have her die from Hepititis A because some pig didn't wash their hands before making her food.  It can happen anywhere.

Anyways, we went to get her updated, Hep A isn't required in Ohio.  Hep B is.  So she also needed a few more to be completely up to date.  She was due for five.  I told the nurse that she had a tramatic experience with a nurse the last time.  So we did two.  She did very well.  She even tried to act ok leaving so she didn't scare the other kids in the lobby.  She was more worried about scaring them.  So we took her to get a treat at Toys are us.

Well she was tired and not wanting to go to bed.  She ran in her room in the dark and tripped over her folding chair.  She started hollering like a banshee.  That sounds that chills you to the bone.  I was in her room in a flash.  I didn't see gushing blood, so I calmed down a little.  She had a small cut on her knee, a scrape on her arm, and a scrape on her neck.  She missed the arm she got a shot in.  So I let her lay on our bed and chill out for a few minutes.  So I have more gray hairs this morning.  You know instantly when you hear "that cry" that she is really hurt.  Your heart is in your throat until you get to them.

Here is my apron picture of the day.  Have a wonderful day.

Here is another great shot in Galveston:

Over the hump day.

Happy St. Patrick's Day.  My corned beef, red potatoes, and cabbage is cooking as we speak!!!

Bri got her Barbie clothes at Big Lots yesterday.  So she is happy.  Do you remember which Barbie you had?  I had Superstar Barbie.  They are selling it again, but with a short dress and no boa.  You could never forget that screaming pink dress.

I got lazy last evening and didn't stitch.  I sat on the couch and listened to CD's.  That was a rare treat.  Bri and Daddy played board games.

Got to get out and pick up my Turbo Tax software.  I am using it for the first time.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Here is the first in my apron pictures.  This is my favorite of the bunch.  I have a box of hankies too.  I'll have to pull them out.  Have a wonderful day.

Isn't this Indian theme too cute??

Tuesday Tales

We are doing the rainy day plans today.  It is cloudy and cool here again this morning.

I spent the evening stitching.  I hope to have some finishes to post tomorrow.  Bri found a board game in a unpacked box.  And her Princess cash register.  So she happily played all evening.  Plus a stray Barbie.

I washed up some aprons that my Grandma's sister Bea gave me.  I love them.  They are from the 50's or 60's.  I'll have to get some pics of them.  One has cowboys and indians.  Very cute.

I think we are going to have to go to lunch or something to get out of the house.  Bri has a few dollars burning a hole in her pocket.  She wants some new Barbie clothes.  So I guess we will be going to Big Lots.

Have a wonderful day.

Monday Morning

Good cool, cloudy morning.  It is going to rain here today.  My plants will be really happy with that.  We had such a beautiful sunny weekend.  Pic's from Galveston in my last post.  We sang "Morning has broken" at church yesterday morning.  What a beautiful sight with sun streaming thru the windows.

It is time for pics of the TUSAL.  Those are below.  I didn't get as much done as I wanted.  So I will be burning the midnight oil to get somemore projects done.

My garden is coming along.  Bri got a strawberry from her plants already.  She really enjoyed that.  She offered me a bite.  So she shared the "fruits" of her labor!!

Bri is on Spring Break this week.  So we are getting out and about.  Have a wonderful day.

Here is a pic just to dream about nice weather.

Fantastic Friday

Good morning all.  I hope everyone is well today.

I am reading a book called "The Power of a Praying Woman."  It is by Stormie Omartian.  I really can't comment yet, as I just started it last night.  Some one from the church passed away and the family donated all her books.  So Pastor put them out so anyone may look thru them and this caught my eye.

I finished my job work yesterday.  So I am going out running with my Hubby.  I am so glad to be able to have a day for just the two of us.  I am sure we will go to lunch.

Bri and George went to the park after school for a while yesterday so I could finish my job work.  They played ball at the park and then George took her to Big Lots to spend her allowance on some Pony's she has been wanting.  She ran in the house all happy because she bought me a bag of peppermint pillows.  She told me she wanted to share the wealth.  I got a big kick out of that.  That is something that you really can't teach.  She has always been a very generous and sharing child.  Last year, she got a doll that she already had for Christmas from someone.  She told them how much she liked it.  Later in the evening, she came to me and told me that she wanted to give it to her friend at church because she knew that she would like it.  She also put another toy that she got in the bag too because she thought she got too much things and it was better to share.  I had tears in my eyes.  She has been like this from very early on.  When we visited San Antonio in 2008, she made sure that she got a small gift for her friends in the MOPS group.  She wanted them to have a little bit of the fun she had. When it was my niece's daughters birthday, she got Kara a gift and made sure that she got Markie, her brother, one too so he didn't feel left out.

Well, I need to get a few things done before we leave.  Have  a very nice day.

Is that the look of sheer joy!!

Good Thursday Morning!

Good Morning.  I didn't have a very restful night.  I woke a few times and then slept in this morning.  Grrrrr That just messes up the whole day.

I went to a new bible study at church last night.  It is about helping your church be more fruitful.  We discussed hospitality.  How vistors are treated, what it would be like to step into a church for the first time, and such.  I just joined this church after I moved here.  So I have been a member since August.  So I was able to tell what my experience was.  I knew I was home when I went in there the first time.  Has this happened to you?  Do you have a church family or is it just where you go on Sunday morning?  If you go to church just because it is close, or your parents always did, or just because it is a certain kind of church, you could be missing out on a wonderful experience.  Where I go, they remember my name and my daughter's name, invite me to functions, are sincerely glad to see us.  I missed a few Sundays and got a nice card from the church asking if I needed anything.  There is a feeling of love and caring.  When we pass the peace, it takes awhile to get back to the service.  It is a fairly small congregation.  But the percentage of members who come on Sunday is pretty high.  We have cake on the first Sunday for all the birthdays of the month, the is Dining Out the first week of the month.  You have food and fellowship for 5.00 a person.  There is Lunch Bunch.  It is a group of people who meet one Wednesday a month.  We all bring a potluck.  Our Ladies study is usually before Lunch Bunch.  We have a potluck the last Sunday a month.  One Sunday we meet for Dutch Lunch.  It is very friendly and welcoming.  We did a living Nativity.  That drew a good turnout.  It was a wonderful, meaningful celebration for the Christmas season.  Thank you for letting me share.  It means alot to me since my friends and family are 1300 miles away.  I didn't have the same kind of experience in the church I attended back in Ohio.  It was kind of like that when the one minister was there, but the money part of the church got rid of him.

My plants are coming along.  I am craving my first tomato!!  I want to make homemade salsa.  I am growing ciltrantro.  I can't wait to have some.  Bri runs outside when she gets home from school to see what has popped up.  She can't wait for cucumbers.

Well, I need to get going.  Have a wonderful day.

Over the hump day.

Good Morning.  It is a foggy and muggy morning.  My seedlings and plants are growing like crazy.  It hit 77 degrees and humid as heck yesterday.  We didn't go lower than the 60's last night.

Stitched up a storm last night.  Bri got the new Barbie movie, the mermaid Barbie doll, and a charm jewlery set.  So she happily played while I stitched.

Thanks for everyone who gave me ideas for dinners.  What do you do, plan meals ahead?  I usually just plan meals by what is on sale at the grocery store.  Do you plan by the week or the month?

Well, I need to finish my job work today.  Have a wonderful day.

Tuesday Tales

Good rainy morning to all.  It is rainy here again today.  But it is making my plants and seeds go crazy.  It is 64 degrees already.  A bit foggy this morning.

Thanks to all who complimented on my pics of Bri and my dog Honey.  Honey is a stray that someone threw out where my sister in law works.  I have had her since July.  I wasn't much of a dog fan.  But now we are the best buddies.

Still working on job work.  Hopefully, I will have it done late today or tomorrow morning.

Have to do a few errands today.  I am not sure what I want to make for dinner.  I think I am in a rut.  I am tired of roasts, pork chops, meatloaf, and spagetti.

Have a great day.
Bri likes to show everyone that she is missing a tooth.

She is so silly!

Monday Morning

Quick post before I get going on my job work.  Yuck.

It is rainy and thundery today.  It sure feels like Spring.

We really enjoyed the Rodeo on Saturday.

I lead the service at church on Sunday.  I was very nervous.  But the nervousness just disappeared when I started reading.  I didn't mess up too bad.  I didn't knock over the pulpit or candles or anything.  LOL

Bri wanted me to take some pics of her in her Butterfly dress that her Grammy sent her.  She is a big ham.  She is too cute with ponytails.

Working on "Now I know my ABCs" from Blackbird Designs.  It is a freebie.  I'll post a pic soon.  I am using 28 ct fabric and HDF in "Yawning Mountain".  Great autumn colors.  You can see the floss color at Vicki Clayton's HDF site.  (see the link on my sidebar)

Have a wonderful day.

Crazy cleaning!

Yes, I have the Spring cleaning fever.  I guess it comes with the lovely 65 degree weather that we are having.

Bri is welcoming the nice weather with a request to go to the park after school everyday.  It is good for her.  I read somewhere that a walk every night will help children sleep better.  I think turning her loose at the park has the same effect!  I am not looking forward to the time change.  She will not go to sleep until it is dark and then is up at the crack of dawn.  Grrrr

How do you cope with kids clothes?  I have decided today that I am only going to put a few clothes in the drawers at a time.  Bri loves to change clothes.  So if she only has a few in the drawer, maybe this will help cut down on two minute worn laundry!!!  It is weird here now.  In the low 40's in the morning, and in the mid to upper 60's by the afternoon.  I am transfering the seasonal clothes back into plastic tubs.  I thought that six pair of jeans, six tops, three outfits (tops and pants go together), a couple tee shirts, three sets of long shorts with matching tops would be plenty in her drawers for the week.  Three nightgowns and white tees with sleep pants.   Plus the sock and underwear drawer.  I think that it is time to put up her tights that she wears to school too.  She wears a uniform to school.  Put the other clean clothes in plastic bins and rotate them.  Give me your ideas.

Have to get moving on potholders and dishclothes I am making for our church's fish fry and silent auction.  I want to make a kitchen basket for the auction.  I thought I would get placemats and towels to go with the stuff I am making.  Any suggestions?

I am going to be making baby blankets and lap-gans(great for people in wheelchairs or chair bound) out of the stash of yarn that I have.  I am going to put them up for sale.  Any suggestions?

Well, I need to switch my laundry around and start my supper.  Have a wonderful day.

I told Honey to pose pretty for a picture.  She is too cute.

Over the hump day.

Hello.  We are enjoying sunny and warm weather here today.  My seedlings are emerging and my herbs are growing.

I am working on my Feb, Mar, and Apr Bride's SAL ornies.  Please go to Bride's SAL blog on my favorite blog list and join the fun.  My niece is suppose to get married this fall.  I want to make her a set of ornies also.  She wants the date 10-10-10.  Isn't this fun?

I have decided not to use plastic containers in my closet.  I saw some wonderful paper mache ones at TJMaxx.  ( also you can find them at Ross or Marshalls)  If I have to contain things, why not use something beautiful.  I will have to post when I get it done.  Plus there are so many different sizes, colors, etc.  I can blame hubby for starting this one.  He bought me a really nice box to keep my photos in.  LOL

Here is a quick recipe for your Easter table:

1 pack cream cheese, softened
1 jar Old English cheese
1 jar Cheddar cheese
1 jar pineapple cheese
11/2 cups pecan pieces
Crackers or pita crisps

Combine all cheeses and beat with an electric mixer until smooth.

Form a ball

Roll in pecans

Refrigerate until time to serve.

Have a blessed day.

Tuesday Tales

My goodness.  My week started out crazy.  I had to go get Bri from school yesterday.  Her cheeks got all rosy and she was quiet.(That is a wonderment in itself!!)  She didn't have a fever, but wanted to come home.  I think that she got too much sun on Sunday at the Zoo.  I put sunscreen on her twice.  But I think between the sun, the excitement, and not having napped for three days, and going to bed late she was past her limit.

But we had a wonderful trip to the Houston Zoo on Sunday.  It was a beautiful sunny day.  A bit breezy.  It got to a balmy 65.  We rode the train around Herrman Park, then went into the Zoo.  If you are ever in Houston, you must check out the Zoo and Herrman Park.  It isn't a large Zoo.  Great for walking around in a day.  It was about 40.00 for all four of us to go.  You can become a member for 80.00.  That gives you discounts and 10 visits to the Zoo in a year.  I think that is for a family of four.  Herrman Park is a beautiful park right downtown.  The Zoo sits in the middle of the museum district.  So you can walk to the museums and hop the train back to the Zoo.

I finished my project for the frontpage of the Yahoo Group Stitchersantics.  I think that starting tomorrow, you can see the picture of the project there.  If you are a stitcher, please just this fun group.  The pattern I used is sampler 11 (b) from Stofnest.  Please go to Stofnest blog.  Ria has lots of quilt and cross stitch pattern freebies.  Her designs are wonderful.  Hats off to Ria for her great designs!!!!  You can find this blog listed in the blogs I follow.  Please visit her.

Now I have to balance out the rest of the week.  I have to get my housework done, my job work done, and take my truck to Spring, TX for its oil change.  It is a large dealership where the truck was bought.  It is hard to find a Dodge dealership now.  45 North is called dealership row around here.  You can buy almost any brand there.  I got a great deal on oil change and tire rotation.  With the fancy stuff on the truck, I would rather the dealership mess with the oil and such.  That is the worst part of a new truck.  You can't hardly find the oil stick, let alone change the oil yourself.  But there is a great cross stitch shop in Spring.  So I guess I can justify stopping by since we will be so close!!!!

Well, I need to get stuff done.  Have a wonderful day.
