Goodbye 2010

I was thinking about what my goals are for 2011.  I read a really good post at my friend Parsley's blog.   http://www.seasonsofmymind.blogspot.com/

My word for 2011 is HOPE.

There is so much HOPE in me for 2011.

Have a wonderful New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.  Thanks for reading and following me this year.  You mean more to me than you know.  God Bless!

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

Ok, here it is!

Everyone is asking me what a carpet bag is and what it looks like.  So here it is:

The flowers and leaves are all embroidery.  I just love it.  I think that my SIL got it for me at Coldwater Creek.  I think also that they call it an overnight bag.

Have you taken down your decorations yet?  We do it on New Year's Day.

Here is a recipe to use up some of the leftover ham.

1 cup mayonnaise
2 10 oz packs of frozen broccoli florets, thawed and drained.
2 cups shredded Swiss cheese (or cheese of your choice)
3 cups cooked and diced ham
2 cups rotini, cooked and drained
3/4 cup chopped yellow pepper
1/2 cup milk
1 cup croutons

Combine mayo, broccoli, 1 1/2 cups of the cheese, ham, rotini, peppers, and milk.

Put mixture into greased 9x13 baking dish

Top with remaining cheese and croutons

Bake at 350 for  30 minutes.

Serves 12

I like to make a nice crusty loaf of bread to go with this and a salad.  Nice and easy.

Can you believe it is over??

Isn't it funny how we stress and fuss, then quick as a flash Christmas is done?  Did you get what you wanted?  Did you remember the reason for the season?

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  The Christmas Eve service at my church was really nice.  I love singing Silent Night with nothing but candles.  Makes me cry a bit though.  I still get a bit homesick.

Have a great day and God Bless!

Tuesday Tales

No pun intended!!  Lots of tails in this house now.  The puppies are really cute.  My daughter is completely in love with them.  The Brittany puppy that we found this spring thinks that she is their Mother.  LOL  She is always cleaning and checking on them.

Were are you in the Christmas list?  I have baking and wrapping yet to do.  It will be a late night marathon of wrapping.  I am going to bake a few kinds of cookies.  I want to take the Pastor and his wife a bag of Dunkin Donut coffee and a tray of cookies.  I think we are going to do chocolate chip, gingerbread, sugar, and snickerdoodle.  Snickerdoodle is my favorite.

Got tea as gifts.  That always makes me happy.  I got cranberry pomigrante, pumpkin spice, and winter chai.  Also Christmas in a cup and Cowboy something or other.  They smell wonderful.  So I am thinking about a nice cup of tea, a book, and my comfy chair.  After Bri goes to bed of course.

Got my package out to my parents and one sister.  Mom and Dad were really happy with the crocheted projects that I made.

Well, I need to get my butt in gear and get the day going.  Have a wonderful day!

Guess what?  We have puppies.  SIL went to get a puppy and ended up with three.  Chloe, Gracie, and Scout.

Have a wonderful day.

Last night was the Christmas program at Awanas

She had to wear the new dress her Grammy sent her.  So she felt all snazzy.

This is her Sparky group.

Bri has really enjoyed Awanas.  If you have kids, it is a wonderful program.  It is held at churches, so you can look around if your church doesn't offer it.

Awanas is the reason that I found the church that we now attend.

Have a wonderful day.

Mitz modeling Christmas sweaters

We were in the 30's this morning.  Poor Mitzi gets cold.  So here she is modeling Christmas sweaters.

Isn't this too funny?  She is so silly.

Trip to Battleship Texas

We had beautiful weather to go to the Battleship Texas.  Very windy, but sunny and warm.

Bri had fun going up and down the ladders.  I don't enjoy heights or enclosed spaces, but it wasn't too bad.

We got to see Santa, have cookies and hot cocoa, make ornies, send Santa a message by Morse Code, and listen to a local High School's String section.

Have a wonderful afternoon.

Thursday Morning

Isn't this gorgeous?  It was a sample picture on my computer.  I love it.

We went to our first 4-H for homeschoolers.  They formed the group in September.  So it is a new group.

Bri helped build a gingerbread house.  They had 15 minutes to put it together.  It was really funny.  One groups house fell in and they called it the Ike House.

We are going on a food/nutrition trip to Outback Steakhouse next week.  Bri loves steak.

They had the Awanas store last night.  Bri had over 900 points to use.  So she got 10 items and she was very excited.  She got her Daddy a card game and she got me a bracelet, a watch, and a lotion/handsoap set.  She wanted to share the winnings with us.  She is a very caring and sharing kid.  The rest of the stuff is for her to play with.

Been chilly here.  It didn't get past 48 yesterday.  Cloudy and cool.  It was in the 30's last night.  I am glad to see the sun today.  Talked to my Mom and it was really cold and snowy.  I can't say that I miss that.  I like to watch it on TV now.

Well, I have to get some school done today.  I let Bri play educational games on the computer and that was it yesterday.  Since we had 4-H and Awanas, I didn't feel like rushing it.

Have a wonderful day.

We named our homeschool

I have been reading that a lot of families name their homeschool.  In Texas, I am considered a private school.  So we decided on our name, colors, and mascot.

Morganic Institute of Thinkology  (MIT)
The mascot is a squirrel
The colors are green and pink!!

Have a wonderful day!!

Monday Meanderings

Katy is such a goose.  She is a sweetie.  Can you believe that she was a stray?

Good Morning.  It is a rainy and muggy day here today.  I put my mile and a half in this morning.  Yuck.  It was a sweaty one.  LOL

We are going to our first Homeschool group this week on Wed.  I have not been to one, and I don't really know what to expect.

I got Bri Jump Start 1st Grade.  She likes to play it.  I also have a Math fun game.

I am trying to get my Mom's scarf done.  I got my Dad's done.  I will have to get pictures.

Have a wonderful afternoon!

The day after

Can you believe Thanksgiving is here and gone?  We had a wonderful meal.  My hubby did a fantastic job.  The bird was perfect.

The carcass is on the stove simmering to make soup for dinner.  I love soup when it is chilly.  It was 80 degrees yesterday, and it is 38 here today.  So it will hit the spot.

Do you do Black Friday?  I won't go anywhere all weekend.  I don't like rude people or large crowds.

We went to Walgreens yesterday.  They had a nice sale on toys.  Most of their 9.99 toys were on sale for 4.99.  We also went to Big Lots.  So Bri is now done.  She and SIL were home watching the parades.  So George and I had our first break since we pulled Bri from school.

I watched "Sarah, plain and tall" yesterday.  I really like that movie.  The three in the series were on.  I think that it was the Hallmark Channel.  Do you think you would have gone and been a mail order bride?  I often wonder if I would have done that back then.  I guess it would be a way to get out of where you lived and into something new.  I am sure that it didn't always work out.

Have a wonderful afternoon.  God Bless!

Tuesday Tales

This is a picture out on our porch.  I love this odd pumpkin.

It is rainy here today.  But I can't say that it is cool because it is in the 70s.

We decided not to do school work today.  I have errands to run and I don't think I could keep Bri's attention.  LOL

Here is a new twist for mashed pototoes:

5 pounds potatoes
1/2 pound carrots
3 stalks of celery, chopped
4 onions, peeled and diced
1 1/2 sticks of butter
1/2 cup milk
1 cup sour cream

Peel potatoes and cut into bite-sized pieces.  Cover with water in a 5-quart pan.

Add carrots, celery, and onions.

Cook over medium heat until veggies are tender

Drain veggies and separate carrots

Mash carrots in a separate bowl

Mash all other veggies by hand

Add one stick of the butter and milk and beat with an electric mixer

Beat in sour cream and carrots

Put into a greased 9x13 baking dish

Top with 1/2 stick of butter and keep warm at 250 until butter melts

serves 8-10

Have a wonderful day!

Swap reveal!!

I am sharing my swap today.  I joined a swap over at Seasons of my Mind.  I received a box of goodies from Julie over at A Journey Not A Race.  Thanks Julie, it really brightened the season for me!!

There are towels, cookie cutters, a great veggie peeler, place card holders, a photo calendar, a candle, Breast Cancer Awareness things, a cute picture in a frame.  If I missed something, I am sorry.  But it was a great box.  I was so pleased!!

Here also is a picture of my "yellow rose of Texas" my hubby got me when we moved here.

This was taken this morning.  It has been so warm here that it is blooming.

We took Bri to the Woodlands mall.  It is north of Houston.  We happened to get Santa with no line.  So here it is:

I just can't get over how big she is!!  She is so cute.  The Santa is a very nice looking Santa.

Homeschooling is going very well.  It is amazing how much we really get done in a day.  We are going to do work today and tomorrow, but Wed we are going to be helping Daddy with dinner preparations.  I ordered a few books from Amazon.  Homeschooling for Dummies, Discover your Child's Learning Style, a book of ideas for homeschooling.  They were all used, so I got them at a good price.  This is the first time that I used Amazon.  I was really happy with it.

Last but not least:

Here is a great way to use up mashed potatoes and ham.

8 cups mashed potatoes
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
3 cups diced cooked ham
3 cups of shredded Cheddar
1 cup whipping cream

In a large bowl, combine the potatoes and the garlic.
Put the mix in a greased 9x13 pan
Distribute the ham evenly over the top of the potatoes.
Combine the cheese and the whipping cream
Pour over the ham
Bake uncovered at 450 for 15-20 minutes or until golden.

Serves 12 to 15

Have a wonderful day!

Monday Meanderings

Good morning!  It is a chilly and rainy day today.  I am fighting a cold/sinus thing.  But we are doing worksheets this morning.

We went to a church wide Thanksgiving dinner last night.  It was really nice and there was lots of food and fellowship.  I ended the evening with a nice piece of homemade pumpkin pie.  MMMmm.

I am so grateful for the outpouring of support for me in schooling at home.  I have had so many ideas and such that I just can't believe it.

Have a wonderful day.

Things here have been crazy.

Sorry I haven't been posting.  Things at school haven't been going well.  I am not going to get into it all here.  But I withdrew Bri from school yesterday.  So I will be homeschooling.  At least until Fall.  I haven't decided what I am going to do yet.  But that is ok.  I am going to do Kindergarden here with her.  I am getting the rest of her books and things at school on Monday morning.  I spent 250.00 on her school books this year and I am not letting them go to waste.  They are Abeka.  So I can do the rest of this year.

Please pray for me.  I had been tossing the idea of homeschooling around when we first moved here to Texas.  I have been praying about our family and getting closer.  So I know that God's hand is in this.  Sometimes he answers prayers so quickly.  LOL

I am open to ideas and help.  Please don't hesitate to email me at:
amymorgan1970@aol.com    I am looking for a homeschool group that is close to me and I am looking for others that homeschool an only child.

Being close to Houston, I have lots of field trip ideas.  We are talking about going to the Space Center.  (NASA)  It isn't 20 minutes away.  They have a Lego thing going.  I have even found a fencing class.  But I think it is too far away.  So I guess that it is going to open up the way I think.

I had been wondering about my choice to be a SAHM and a homemaker.  I guess this is my answer.

God Bless and have a wonderful day.

Fantastic Friday

Can you believe it?  I get to go the Houston Quilt Show here in Houston.  A friend of mine asked me if I wanted to go.  Well, Yeah!!

So I will be gone most of the afternoon and evening.  So George, Bri, and Linda will be going to dinner tonight.

I am so thankful for small gifts.

Have a wonderful day.

Tuesday Tales

It is cool and rainy here this morning.  We had some nasty thunderstorms last night.  Or early this morning.  But we needed the rain really bad.

I talked to my Mom yesterday, and she bought me more 100% cotton yarn.  I love to make washcloths and facial rounds.  So I know what I will be working on after Christmas.

Bri was all excited.  She watched Star Wars  The Phantom Menace last night.  I can't believe how quiet she was.  LOL

I am headed out to vote.  I hope you do too.  Read Psalm 72 first.  What do you think?

My silly hubby and daughter.

The battle is on!!!

It tires both of them out.  LOL  Even the dog.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Thursday Morning

Good Morning.  It is much cooler and breezy here today.  I just got back from walking my mile and a  half.  Only did a mile yesterday because it was so hot and muggy.

Bri got to dress up for a costume night at Awana last night.  She went dressed as "Alice in Wonderland."  She looked so cute.  Especially with tennis shoes on.  LOL

They are having the "Harvest Party" at her school today.  They aren't allowed to dress up.  Silly, but that is the way that it is.

Our church is having a "Fall Festival" on Sunday evening.  Bri is planning on dressing up as Jessie from Toy Story or just a cowgirl.  I am so glad that there is a safe place for her to go and get treats, play games, etc.  I really enjoyed trick or treat as a child, but don't think that it is safe anymore.

George is out washing the truck.  It hasn't rained here in weeks, so everything is so dusty.  We are planning to go to Sam's Club when he is done.

Finished a blanket for Bri's 18 inch dolls last night.  I have started a Spirally Scarf for her for Christmas.  I will get pictures and share it later.  You can go to Ravelry and get this pattern.  It is made by Lisa Gentry.  It is 2.00 for the download.  It is very easy and cute.
http://www.ravelry.com/   Lots of great free patterns and groups there.

If you love Reese's Peaunut Butter Cups, here is one that serves eight.

Easy Peanut Pie

1 8oz pack cream cheese, softened
9 oz peanut butter, chunky or creamy
1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
12 oz frozen whipped topping thawed
1 10" prepared graham cracker crust
4 Reese's Reaunut Butter cups chopped up

With electric mixer, mix together cream cheese and peanut butter until smooth.

Add condensed mild and half of whipped topping, reserving some for the top.

Mix well and pour in pie shell.

Top with remaining whipped topping and candy bar pieces.  Put in refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours.

I'll leave you with this verse.
"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most Hight will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

Have a wonderful afternoon.
